Dr. Fitzpatrick, the developer of the microBIOMETER®, is a microbiologist with a specialty in immunology and on-site testing. 5 years ago she abandoned medical diagnostics where she holds 12 U.S. patents to work in soil microbiology. Her special interest is the immune system of plants and its reliance on microbes and other insects for protection.
Plants are even more dependent on their microbes for a healthy immune system than we humans are. That is why heavy chemical use, which kills microbes, leaves plants susceptible to pathogens and stress and leads to the requirement for pesticides. In this talk, you will learn how the plants immune cells can behave much like our white cells, how plants exposed to pathogens recruit microbial and insect partners to fight the pathogen and why the microbes actually are a requirement for a healthy plant immune system.
